DSP-333/Planned Grazing System with a Well
DSP-3 rules apply with the following governing inclusion of a well:
-Well construction is limited to a maximum cost-share amount of $3,500 per farm and /or landowner.
-A well should be the least cost alternative to provide livestock water.
-All third order streams and any second order streams that have a perennial pool or a permanent flow, located with the planned grazing system, must be fenced and exclude all livestock.
-If it is determined that the well has been used for reasons other than livestock use, a prorated repayment of the cost-share received for the well will be required
-The components that will be allowed under the well construction limitation of $3,500 include the well drilling, casing, and grout.
-Cost-share is not eligible for electrical lines that would be used to provide power to the well, pump control box, or any other items needed for the water distribution system.
-Well construction must meet NRCS standards and specifications.
-All wells must be constructed and registered according to state requirements.
-The planned grazing system will have a maintenance life of 10 years when a well is installed.
-Well construction is eligible on all newly approved DSP-3 practices as well as on existing DSP-3 systems. However, well construction on existing systems will only be allowed if the landowner increases the number of paddocks or acreage in their current system, it is the least cost alternative, and the existing water supply is no longer adequate.
-Cost-share for the reconstruction of an existing well is allowed as long as the well is built back to NRCS standards and specifications.
