Poster Contest:  Each year the National Association of Conservation Districts sponsors a poster contest which provides students with an opportunity to share their thoughts on soil, water and related natural resource issues in a graphics format. The Laclede County Soil and Water Conservation District sponsored the local contest and presented local awards.  The contest is offered to all fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in the county, approximately 1400 students.  The contest highlights the educational outreach efforts of our conservation district. The theme this year was "Water Wise".  Water is essential to all life, plant and animal.  Without water life on this planet would not exist.  Clean, healthy water is critical to our well being and survival.  We must use our water resources wisely to assure there availability to us and generations to come.  Keeping water clean is important to our health.  Pollution is not only  harmful to man and his activities but to wildlife and nature.  The State's natural resources are protected by  the Missouri Department of Conservation, and other federal agencies.  State efforts to conserve soil, improve water quality, and maintain our State Park System is supported by a one-tenth of one percent sales tax dollars earmarked for these purposes.  The Soil and Parks sales tax was reapproved in 2006 for another eight years.

NACD's 2008 program, themed "Water is Life," will cover water as a resource used in everyday life, the water cycle, water quality, water quantity, watersheds, storm water runoff and more.
